Nicholas K. Downing is a full-time blacksmith and jeweler based in Southern Maine, who has been blacksmithing for over 20 years. He makes everything from simple wall hooks and bottle openers to kitchen utensils, fine wood working tools, knives, and decorative work like hardware, gates and sculpture. He also makes jewelry in precious (and non-precious) metal, stones and found material.
In addition to making his living from his work, Nicholas also has taught classes in the past. His resume includes classes at the New England School of Metalwork, Continuing Studies at the Maine College of Art, the Adirondack Folk School, and Snow Farm- The New England Crafts Program. In his spare time, he can be found exploring the woods with his partner, Jennifer.
